Establishment of rural branches in the towns of

Chibombo and Kabwe, which are situated in 

Central Province, Zambia.  

Activities:

- HIV/AIDS prevention, literacy and treatment

campaign, establishment of support groups among

infected persons.

- Sanitation and hygiene education, activities include

grass cutting along the roads, and construction of foot bridges. The grass is being cut to allow easy movement for the local population, especially children going to school.  Cutting grass and burying pools of water which are breeding grounds for mosquitos, will help in the prevention of out breaks of malaria, a major killer in the country.

- Improve existing structures or simply help build houses and external toilets where they are non existent in the village.

- Prevention and spread of TB in the community.

- Supply of water to the community.  Water is not readily available, so people have to travel long distances to fetch water from the few and overused boreholes that frequently breakdown.  Therefore there is a need to install boreholes in each village.

Other needs:

- Clinics.  The community needs clinics and schools.  People travel long distances to go to the clinic, their children walk very long distances to go to school. 

-Maize is the staple food in the country and has to be ground before people can consume it.  Hammermills are used to grind the maize, however these are not available in all the region.  The women and children have to travel long distances to have their maize ground.

- There is no electricity in the area.

On the national level we have identified the need for people with auditive and vision impairments to be sensitized and educated in the area of HIV/AIDS.  We will hold workshops with them around the country.
